Another Approach to Dealing With Razor Bumps

Since man has been able to shave we have suffered from razor or shaving bumps. Some men grew out of it, but for others it has gone worse as the years go by. For some men the fear of bumps has led them to abandon shaving altogether. For those who have persisted, for whatever reason, they have sought one remedy after another with varying degrees of success. Many people have resigned themselves to never having a smooth shave. In short they try to live with razor bumps.

It is reasonable to assume that to be able to solve a problem one needs to understand it, the cause, how it develops and so on. For a very long time, it was assumed that razor bumps, also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, are thought to be the result of wiry, curly hairs cut during the shaving process curling back as they regrow and piercing the skin. This piercing of the skin is thought to cause infection. Tweezers are often employed to probe and pull out the offending hairs. This usually aggravates the situation, and makes the situation worse, infected and painful.

A few years ago, some scientists in the United States, France, Italy and Switzerland dedicated to Personal bodycare, Applied Research in Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, decided to work together and take a more scientific look at this problem of razor bumps. From their investigations they concluded that razor bumps are mainly the result the skin reacting to the trauma of the scraping during the shaving process. As a result of this reaction, the skin is inflamed. This inflammation manifests itself is bumps. Furthermore damaged melanin cells react to the trauma of shaving to make add to the inflammation. This is the reason why people of colour are more susceptible to shaving bumps, and when they have them, they tend to be worse than they are for Caucasians.

Armed with this information, the scientists have gone ahead to produce a line of products to deal with bumps. These products have been available in the United States for a few years now, and they have proved very successful and popular. They are being introduced to the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe now.

There is a range of products aimed at dealing with bumps very quickly and to help one keep them at bay. One is able to see tangible results within 24 hours of using products designed to deal with severe bumps. This they do by cleaning the skin and removing excess oil and dirt, disinfect the skin and relieve inflammation and dry out bumps. This is followed by the application of a healing lotion that soothes, heals, moisturizes and conditions the skin leaving it smooth and free of bumps within days.

Even where the bumps are caused by ingrown hairs the lotion is able to dry out the bump thus freeing the growing hair. It is, therefore, not necessary to probe the bump with tweezers in order to free the ingrown hair.

Women also suffer from bumps from shaving the bikini area, legs and under-arm. Products have been formulated to deal with these too. Results can be seen within 24 hours of starting to use them.

Most of the ingredients in these products come from nature, so there are no side effects. There is no alcohol, natural fragrances come from lavender and rose oil. The aim is to keep the skin cleaned and free of excess oil and dirt, calmed, soothed and protected.
